What is Point and Go Localise (PAGL)?

PAGL is an online translation system, which handles the process of creating localised media files. The system combines the process of translation, typesetting, and audit trail all in one system, so it streamlines the workflow into a seamless activity.

Here’s the gist:

  • you upload a file and it instantly prepares a file for translation, building a file (Docx, Xliff, csv, xml) that can be distributed to linguists that best match your requirements
  • Once the files are with linguists you can view its progress in-situ.
  • The file is proofread and art worked
  • The client can view, comment and approve in the system itself, allowing for rapid iterations and a shorter lead time to market.
It’s a fairly simple procedure but one that saves a ton of time. Consider a typical use case scenario of a brochure, a book, user manuals, packaging, or catalogues. Now imagine you need to translate them into 15 languages – a file with images, and different formatting with visual assets, graphs, etc.
 
The use of PAGL centralises the process: it allows quick amends and the process is exactly the same if you are translating 1 or 50 languages. You can use linguists not only to translate but also to check in situ if the content looks just as it should be, saving time, and rounds of amends in offline documents or platforms that are not built for purpose.

What is File Engineering?

Our process for handling complex files in the translation process involves file engineering, which simplifies the handling of various file formats and enables seamless integration and processing while preserving the quality and functionality of the original content.

How is File Engineering different from Desktop Publishing?

File engineering is different from Desktop Publishing. The processes can run simultaneously, but while Desktop Publishing deals purely with the visual aspect of an asset, file engineering deals with the stuff behind the scenes: raw data in the back end. The teams who work on it are from completely different background

What files can we support you with?

This set of skills give us the ability to work directly with the text from almost any artwork package, or even create bespoke tools, allows the client to avoid performing laborious and potentially fragmented copy-paste exercises. The files we work with can be pretty common – PDF, INDD, IDML, AI, PSD or HTML, EPUB – or a bit more tricky – like JSON and XML – with data that chances are, you don’t have software to open.

When should you request File Engineering?

So why do you need file engineering again? One more for the crowd in the back….If our linguists can’t open a file, or effectively edit the text, translation becomes a very tricky process. Even with the best CAT tool around, tasks involving HTML with tags and mark-up language that require snipping text unnaturally, for example, can be very difficult for linguists to navigate. That’s where file engineering comes in. We can streamline these processes by deconstructing the file, sending it to the linguist and then reassembling the original one.

This solves the problem of complicated files, but what about simple ones in significant volume? Imagine having to deal with 300 PDFs to extract, translate and return in the new language – very time-consuming! File Engineering reduces manual labour, speeds up lead time to market and, most importantly, is cost-efficient.

What is Legal Translation?

Legal Translation, like any other translation procedure, is the act of transforming one language into another. The distinction is based on the subject, such as legal documents, and the qualifications, knowledge, and accuracy of the translators engaged.

The law itself is dependent on shifting conceptions that are unique to different countries and regions. As a result, it is critical that translators are not only legal specialists who can decode the meaning behind the source, but are also constantly updated on the most recent rules in order to accurately translate materials in a manner relevant and permissible to the target region.

What is Transcreation +?

Transcreation + is a concept we are proud to call our own.

Don’t get us wrong, we are not reinventing the wheel, but we feel the term is appropriate for a specific type of delivery – creative marketing and advertising copy.

Because transcreation is a relatively new process, there are numerous approaches to it. Over the years we’ve come across a number of different methods and eventually developed the one we believe produces the best outcomes for the client and the brands we help bring to new markets.

Transcreation allows for the complete reconstruction of the source content in the target language. The fundamental ideas such as intent, emotion, impact, tone and rhythm are translated to the target language by using expressions and references that relate to the target audience. In extreme cases, the copy can be written from scratch while mimicking the source.

The main difference from the regular Transcreation process is that the linguist will offer at least 2 versions for each of the most important lines. This allows you to select the best version, the one that matches the tone and intent of the source. How do you know it’s the best option? With the help of the back translation, and most importantly, the rationale where the linguist explains how each version is culturally relevant, or why it does make sense. It’s an empowering tool for marketing teams to reach new territories.

Why use Transcreation +?

Transcreation + is specifically designed for the most crucial pieces of copy, the attention-grabbing headlines and compelling CTAs.

Transcreators are marketing experts, copy and content writers, and out-of-the-box thinkers. They bring a culturally relevant outside perspective in order to truly localise your ideas and intent.

Think for example of pop culture references. While a reference to a TV show or song may be significant in the UK, it may be utterly unknown in Germany, rendering a simple translation meaningless. Instead, a Transcreator will seek out the most appropriate and relevant references that convey the same purpose as the original.

The method is a true brainstorming process. Linguists work together with you (the client) by suggesting multiple options for each segment, as well as a back translation and a rationale. From there on you are in total control. You choose one of the options or bounce back with further ideas.

New Balance campaign for Sports Direct Europe required to localise their original posters and artwork in 15 languages: French, Dutch, Slovenian, Spanish, Hungarian, Slovak, Czech, Portuguese, Icelandic, Polish, German, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Greek. The project required the localisation of the headline “No half measures”, delivered on posters of various sizes, with different images.
